CIA withheld tapes away from September 11 commission

A report by 9/11 Commission members and staffers have concluded that the CIA withheld interrogation tapes despite the commission’s specific requests about the information of two specific detainees. Chairmen Lee Hamilton and Thomas Kean said that the CIA impeded the commission’s investigation after reading the report. The CIA defended its action by stating that the commission had access to tapes, and the agency did not destroy the tapes during the commission’s investigation. The CIA destroyed the tapes, because the agency believed that the tapes held no intelligence or inquiry value.

Major computer failure at the International Space Station

Officials report that there was a major computer failure at the Russian segment of the International Space Station. Six computers responsible for command, control, and guidance have failed, and so far reboot attempts have failed. Officials have not ruled out a possible evacuation of the space station.

Astronomers announced the discovery of two extrasolar planets that seem to be one of the hottest objects orbiting a star. Using NASA’s Spitzer Space Telescope, the scientists in University of Central Florida estimated that one of the planets has a temperature of 3,700F. The two planets have the label HD 189733b and HD 149026b, and scientists have calculated that the planet’s surface has high wind speeds at least 6,700 mph.
