After thousands of South Koreans protested on the streets, the South Korean government has delayed the April 18 accord that would have resumed U.S. beef imports to the South Korean market. Many South Koreans fear the possible spread of mad-cow disease from infected beefs. South Korean farm minister Chung Woon-chun also announced that the South Korean government has asked the U.S. not to export beef from cattle over 30 months old.

California Secretary of State Debra Bowen has announced that an initiative to amend the California’s constitution to ban gay marriage would be put forth on the November ballet. Opponents to gay marriage have gathered over one million signatures. Polls have shown that majority of Californians are in support for gay marriage. Gay couples are allowed to marry now as long as the courts do not intervene.

Many in Nepal are celebrating in the streets as the royal flag in the royal palace was taken down. The monarch is expected to move out of the palace, and government officials are planning to turn the palace into a museum. Maoists won a clear majority in the new government of Nepal. Nepal’s army has said that it will respect the rulings of the people. The United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki Moon praised the new development while the U.S. State department had a more cautious tone in its response. Experts say that Nepal still faces several problems, including unity, as the country moves forward to a new era.

California’s Office of Vital Records has announced that Californian counties can issue marriage license to Gay couple on June 17. Opponents have asked the courts to postpone the date until the November, but polls show that majority of Californians are opposed to such idea. There is a movement among Conservatives in California to pass a constitutional amendment that will ban Gay marriage.

Governor Spitzer resigns PDF Print E-mail

New York State Governor Spitzer has announced his resignation after allegations of his involvement in a prostitute ring was revealed by The New York Times. He will be officially leaving the office next Monday. Lieutenant Governor David Paterson will take Spitzer's place, placing Paterson as the first black Governor in New York and the first legally blind Governor in the United States. Many have called for Spitzer's resignation, and the Republican legislature of New York threatened to impeach Spitzer.
