The government of Thailand has announced that many of the anti-government protests, who wore red shirts as a symbolic gesture, have been under control except in certain government buildings. It has been reported that at least two people have been killed and over 100 people injured from the clash. The former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra did call for his supporters to start a revolution, but he made clear that violence should not be used. Red Shirt protesters have damaged many public buildings, and many local residents have sided with the government and have clashed with the Red Shirts for damaging the infrastructures and public property.

After reviewing this development, I have a clearer sense of what’s going on. The coup that overthrew the former Prime Minister Shinawatra was motivated by the citizens and the army fed up with the alleged corruption that was rampaging in the previous government. I believe there was a giant national airport project in Thailand that made big news, because internal corruption led to having the facility built from faulty materials, such as the airport runway made from such poor material that there were cracks on it before any airplanes landed on the airstrip!

So, I guess there is some public relations battle going on between the ousted Prime Minister and the current government of Thailand. It would be nice if the news reporters mention the reason why the former Prime Minister was ousted, so that the readers could get a better context of what’s driving the situation.
