Mexican officials are reporting that after extensive laboratory research the number of people with Swine Flu might be lower than initially reported. After medical examinations, some suspected people with the Swine Flu tested negative with the disease. Although government officials were cautious in not going in too much detail on what this finding means to the flu epidemic in general, experts believe that this is a little sign of relief for health agencies around the world that are trying to combat the spread of the flu.
Well, this is great news for once. However, this does not change the current situation in terms of the potential global epidemic, because people did die from this disease. Of course, many people think this Swine Flu news coverage has been overblown, and I agree. I am just curious to how the cable news network are going to cover this positive development, because their coverage was quite ridiculous in terms of trying to gain ratings at the expense of instilling unnecessary fear in the public.
But diverging from my media critique, I think this might be a wakeup call for all government agencies to prepare better for such pandemic, because I do not think some of the government responses, such as banning pork imports from Mexico and the United States, did anything to help with the situation.
Let’s hope for the best!
