Despite the massive security contributions by various nations, it is unfortunate news that there might have been massive fraud in the recent Afghan Presidential Election. The problem is if you do not have a legitimate political process to determine the next government, then the people will look the other way for a legitimate authority, such as the Taliban.
I am not to suggest that all people in Afghanistan will suddenly support the terrorist organization, but regions that are isolated from the national authority might not show sympathy toward the new government due to all the news of corruption in the election. This will lead to the growing influence of the Taliban in various regions, and consequently more deaths of foreign troops, who are sacrificing their services to give Afghanistan a chance for a legitimate political progress.
The “leaders” in Afghanistan failed miserably. They live in the cloud of lies in the hopes of gaining political authority within the international community. Even before the Presidential election, there were various corruption charges against key Afghan government authorities. A fair election, in the most ideal, should have weeded these people out, but the corrupted leaders maintain their position with the ballot boxes stuffed with fake votes.
The real victim here is the Afghan people, and the international community should intervene politically with care
