USA Today has reported that a judge cleared any legal obstacles for gay marriage in the state of Connecticut. Marriage license has been given to same sex couples beginning at 11 AM yesterday.

The news is a much needed victory for the same sex marriage advocates as Florida, Arizona, and California passed a ballet initiative that amended the state’s constitution to recognize marriage as a union only between a man and a woman. It is highly unlikely that Connecticut would ban same sex marriage using a ballet initiative, because the state is usually socially liberal.

It is quite interesting to see a trend on this issue; for most cases, state legislators attempt to pass a law banning same sex marriages, but the law gets overturned by the state courts. Although some might allege that the courts are filled with left-leaning judges, one could argue that the justification for banning same sex marriage might not be possible in the realm of law.

In any case, it is unlikely to see any federal intervention (In form of legislation) on the matter, because a democratically controlled legislative and the executive branch would not interfere on the issue due to their political principle.
