Zidane made the first goal for the French on a penalty kick in the sixth minute, while Materazzi made a successful head-shot for the Italian team in the eighteenth minute. But two teams struggled to score a point. The Italian offense struggled on the attack, while the French offense continued to miss key opportunities for a goal. The game went to overtime, where no team made any progress. But in the 109th minute French player Zidane made a head attack against another Italian player. Zidane received a red card, which was a crucial blow to the French team. The Italians won the game by a 5 to 3 penalty kicks against France.
